The beauty of Wulai comes from its surroundings of plentifully natural resources such as mountains, rivers, forest, waterfalls, and so on. Also, the diversity of culture from differrent ethnics is a characteristic, too. The combination of aboriginal and Chinese cultures creates a special feature for Wulai.           When it comes to history in Wulai, the place was originally inhibited by a group of aboriginals called “Atayal,”who moved to there during the Qing Dynasty. And since then, they`re constructed altogether 9 tribes in total. As time pass, Japan people and Chinese people came after, which caused the development of several industries.        Mentioning Wulai, you can never miss two parts, one is its hot springs while the other is the old street! Wulai hot springs are mildly carbonic acid with PH level of 6.9. It’s is colorless and odorless and is very popular among people who enjoy taking hot-spring baths. Since it nourishes the skin, gets rid of muscle pain, promotes blood circulation, removes cuticles and whitens the skin. Because it is so good for you, people also call it the ‘beauty hot spring’. Most important of all, it is not expensive at all! Two hours of hot spring baths can cost only 200 NT dollars.

The old street only started flourishing from the 1970s, that`s when tourism industry began to flourish in this place. Back when japan was in control Taiwan, this place was an aboriginal area controlled by the Japanese government. No Chinese were allowed to come in to Wulai until camphor. So camphor was the main reason why the Chinese move into this place. And soon they began to build power plants for electricity supplies, rail roads for transportation, and later Wulai old street was built. What`s so special about it is that it is built with a mixture of three different styles: Chinese, Atayal and Japanese. Today Wulai old street is well known for its hot springs hotels, atayal`s dancing, textiles with colorful patterns and most important, food!
