The Yangmingshan National Park is offeringvisitors a new app service that provides information on attractions,transport and route maps for the suburban Taipei mountain area,with the aim of attracting more tourists, officials said Wednesday.
The new app is based on an online map and GPS location system and offers route maps for trails and cycle paths, as well as the latest information on the park, explained officials with the park's administration.
Through the service, users can also access information in offline mode. The app is available free from the Apple app store and Android Market, administration officials said.
Meanwhile, the officials went on, the park has also introduced free Internet Wi-Fi hotspots in nine public areas, including the Qingtiangang and Yangmingshuwu visitor centers, as well as the park's headquarters.
The park is planning to launch an English version of the app by the end of the year in order to serve the growing number of foreign visitors, said Lin Yung-fa, the park's superintendent.
