Thursday, Dec 31, 2009, Page 2 Kaohsiung City residents will welcome the New Year with a fireworks display lasting more than three minutes tonight, the Kaohsiung City Government said yesterday.
The city’s Information Office said 1,800 fireworks would light up the sky over the Ferris wheel on top of Dream Mall, with orchestra music, percussion and a live band as a festive backdrop to the celebration.
The highlight of the display will be a “Kaohsiung eye” LED light and fireworks show exactly three minutes into the firework display, the office said.
Meanwhile, the Kaohsiung MRT system will extend its operation to 4am tomorrow after the New Year countdown while the train intervals will be shortened to 2.5 minutes, the city government said.
The city’s Transportation Bureau will also offer two free shuttle buses along two routes between 7pm tonight and 4am tomorrow, the city government said.
One of the bus routes will travel between the parking lot at Singuang Wharf and Dream Mall, while the other will be between Cultural Center MRT station and Kaisyuan MRT station near the mall, the city government said.
Traffic controls will be implemented east of Chenggong Second Rd, south of Fusing Third Rd, west of Jhongshan Third Rd, and north of Kaisyuan Fourth Rd starting at 1pm, the city government said.
