Australian Commerce and Industry Office (ACIO) Representative Alice Cawte met with Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin at Taipei City Hall on February 13. Cawte assumed her current position at ACIO six months ago. This is her first visit to Taipei City Government after taking office.
During the meeting, Cawte remarked that she is looking forward to strengthening the cooperation between Australia and Taiwan in the fields of culture and economy. Having spent ten months studying Chinese in Taipei in 1991, she said she was amazed by how greatly the city has changed over the years.
After welcoming the new representative to Taipei, Mayor Hau asked Cawte to relay his invitations to her fellow citizens, hoping that she can encourage more Australians to participate in the upcoming international events hosted by the city, including the 2009 Deaflymics and the 2010 Taipei International Gardening and Horticulture exposition.
